James Knabe performs across the country as a soloist, church musician, and chamber musician. He has strong ties to the greater Chicago area and performs regularly in Chicago. He maintains a private teaching studio in the Chicago area and also has a growing studio from around the world via Skype lessons.

James earned his Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from the School of Music at the University of Iowa.

James has performed solo and baroque ensemble recitals across New England, the Midwest, as well as in Rome, Italy. Additionally he has served as principal trumpet with opera and concert orchestras in the Boston/New England area.

James began his professional studies during high school at the Interlochen School for the Arts (Summer). His studies and experiences continued through college at Eastern Music Festival (NC), Operafestival di Roma (Italy), and Ashlawn-Highland Opera (VA).

James has created a service called Musician Advice that he founded to assist professional and aspiring musicians in the artistic and creative development. Currently James is traveling the country with his family performing and teaching. He plans to do more performing, master classes and teaching in the southern half of the country during 2013.
